Please excuse my interruption. I am the editor for a new online news magazine, the New American Gazette. Do you think that someone from your group would be interested in providing content for our online news magazine from time to time? I am searching for people with a scientific background to provide... more »

Buying Time is Not Fitness Altruistic.

Modern synthesis definition
Say if you were to explain MS in a few lines completely what would it be? It should have all its tenets and key concepts. [moderator's note: Say, Junaid, you wouldn't be trying to get us to do your homework for you, would you? - JAH] Kind regards Junaid

Body Temperature in NREM sleep
We have evolved a basic NREM sleep temperature pattern that may be much much more important than anyone knew. This post is about my ideas of health problems due to body temperature in NREM sleep. Sleep seems to be the second half of a daily food digestion and processing cycle. During the day we eat and begin digestion. During... more »

Madreporite in Echinoderms
I was looking at an adult sea star and admiring its "5-fold" symmetry. Then, I saw it's madreporite. I realized that the madreporite broke the "5-fold" symmetry. It made the adult bilaterally symmetric, just like the sea star larva. Since the youngest larva of echinoderms are always bilateral, it started to wonder if there was a... more »

Chance or Necessity? Bioenergetics and the Probability of Life
This abstract by Nick Lane is condensed version of the work of Mike Russell and Bill Martin (iron sulfur world alkaline hydrothermal vent abiogenesis), and Martin and Miklos Muller (hydrogen hypothesis of the origin of eukaryotes). I think Lane has also made contributions in that area, but his last two books have done well explaining the notion... more »
