*RE: INVITATION TO PUBLIC FORUMS ON PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT'S ** VISIONS ON 28, 29 & 30 NOVEMBER 2007 AT KICC * * (AMPHITHEATRE) **04.00- 07.30 P.M.*
The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Kenya) is Kenya's first public affairs dialogue forum. It seeks to promote pluralism of ideas through open, active and informed debate on public policy issues. The IEA-Kenya is independent of political parties, pressure groups, lobbies and any other partisan interests. Through its Futures programme IEA-Kenya seeks to facilitate increased utilization of futures methodologies such as vision building, scenarios thinking and strategic planning in research, policy debate and decision making processes.
As the country prepares for its 10th general elections on 27th December 2007, the three emergent presidential candidates have released their presidential visions with an effort to articulate the country's development priorities, as they view them. This is timely particularly in a period when the country's planning framework i.e. the Economic Recovery Strategy for Wealth and Employment Creation (ERSWEC) is coming to an end. It is also a commendable effort as this long term thinking would help avoid fragmented development agendas and the stutter effect of planning as has happened in the past. The visions if implemented will help focus attention on what is important i.e. define how the leadership and the people spend their time, how resources are distributed and ultimately what challenges are prioritized in the future.
IEA-Kenya has analyzed the three visions and plans to present the same for discussions by Kenyan professionals through 3 public forums. Reference will be made to the respective party manifestos. IEA-Kenya has invited the three presidential candidates as respondents to the analysis. The proposed dates are;
1. Wednesday, 28th November 2007 ( *Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka's Vision*), 2. Thursday, 29th November 2007 ( *Hon. Raila Odinga's Vision *) and 3. Friday, 30th November 2007 ( *Hon. Mwai Kibaki's Vision 2030*)
The forums will be held in *Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) Amphitheatre *at *04.00- 07.30 P.M*. on each day.
In appreciation of your place and role as a Kenyan professional, I take this opportunity to invite you to attend, contribute to the discussions and have your questions answered by the presidential candidates and/or their representatives.
It is envisaged that through an open and focused analysis and debate on the proposals made by each candidate, Kenyan professionals will be in a better position to judge soberly who their preferred leader should be.

We look forward to your presence as we together contribute to the building of a strong democracy where justice and dignity for all citizens is upheld.
